Privacy policy

This is a demonstration website. Whinstone Joinery & Building is a fictional firm created by Tempany Web Studios. Nothing you type into it is sent, stored or emailed anywhere: the enquiry form runs entirely inside your own browser and the page forgets it the moment you close the tab. The policy below is written the way a real joiner's would be, so a client can see exactly what they would be getting.

Who we are

Whinstone Joinery & Building, Unit 4, Burnside Workshops, Muir Road, Dollar FK14 7NL. For anything to do with your personal information, email [email protected] or phone the workshop on 01632 960118. On a live site the owner is the data controller.

What we collect, and when

Only what we need to price the job and get back to you.

When you send an enquiry

Your name
A phone number
The type of job you are thinking of
Your town or postcode, if you give it

When we come out to measure

The address of the property, because we cannot quote without seeing it
Measurements, levels, photographs of the existing work and notes about the building
Where a building warrant is needed, whatever the local authority requires on the application

We take photographs on site as a record of what was there before we started. We do not put a photograph of your house on a website, a social media post or a quote to somebody else unless you have said yes to it in writing, and you can withdraw that at any time.

Automatically

Our host keeps standard server logs: IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. They keep the site running and secure, and the host deletes them on a rolling basis.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

To price the job and reply to you. Taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
To carry out the work and order the materials. Performance of a contract.
To submit a building warrant application on your behalf. Performance of a contract, and legal obligation once it is lodged.
To honour the ten-year workmanship guarantee. Legitimate interests, and yours as much as ours: we cannot come back and fix something if we no longer know what we fitted.
To keep the site working and secure. Legitimate interests.

We do not sell your details, we do not pass them to advertisers, and we will not put you on a mailing list because you asked about a kitchen. If we ever start one you will have to ask to be on it.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not turn into a quote: 6 months.
Quotes that were not accepted: 2 years, because people often come back the following spring.
Job records, drawings and photographs for completed work: 11 years, so the file outlives the ten-year guarantee.
Invoices and accounting records: 6 years after the end of the tax year, because HMRC requires it.

Who else sees it

Ewan and the two joiners. Where a job needs them, the same electrician, plumber and plasterer we have used for years get the address and the programme, and nothing else. On a live site the suppliers who make the website work would also process it on our behalf, the host and the email provider, each under a contract that only lets them use it to provide that service. A building warrant application goes to your local authority because it has to. In this demonstration none of that happens, because nothing leaves your browser.

Cookies and what this page stores

A cookie is a small file a website keeps in your browser. This page uses none at all. It does keep two small values in your browser's own local storage, which never leave your device and are never sent to us.

There is no advertising cookie, no tracking pixel and no social widget anywhere on this site. Rejecting is exactly as easy as accepting, the two buttons are identical, and rejecting changes nothing about how the page works for you.

You can change your mind from the cookie bar at any time, or by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to us using it. Email [email protected] and we sort it within a month. It is free. Where a record is one we have to keep for tax or for the guarantee we will tell you which, and why, rather than just refusing.

If you are not happy with how we handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes

If we change how we use your information we update this page and change the date at the top.
